Privacy Policy
Effective date: 13 April 2026 · Last updated: 13 April 2026
The short version: Eidetic stores your documents on your device. Your data does not leave your phone except when document content is sent to our AI providers for text extraction and analysis. We do not sell your data. We do not store your data on our servers.
1. Who we are
Eidetic ("we", "our", "the app") is a personal AI memory engine for Android developed and operated in Gurugram, India. Our website is eidetic.in.
For any questions or queries about this policy, write to us at support@eidetic.in.
2. What data we collect
Eidetic collects only the data necessary to provide its core functionality — scanning, indexing, and retrieving your documents.
| Data type | What it is | Where it's stored |
|---|---|---|
| Document images | Compressed thumbnails of documents you scan or import | On your device only |
| Extracted text | Text extracted from your documents via OCR | On your device only (encrypted) |
| Document metadata | Category, keywords, summary, entities extracted from documents | On your device only (encrypted) |
| Location data | GPS coordinates and place names captured at scan time (optional) | On your device only (encrypted) |
| Chat history | Your questions and Eidetic's answers in the Ask screen | On your device only (encrypted) |
| App settings | Your preferences (voice language, image quality, connected calendar) | On your device only |
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any account information (no account required)
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or behavioural tracking
3. How we use AI providers
When you scan or import a document, Eidetic sends the document image and extracted text to third-party AI providers to perform text recognition, visual description, and metadata extraction. This is the only time your data leaves your device.
The AI providers we use are:
| Provider | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Groq | OCR, visual description, Q&A, metadata extraction | groq.com/privacy-policy |
| Together AI | Fallback OCR and Q&A when Groq is unavailable | together.ai/privacy |
| Google Gemini | Secondary fallback for Q&A processing | policies.google.com/privacy |
Document content sent to these providers is used solely for processing your request. Your questions in the Ask screen are also sent to AI providers to generate answers — these queries include relevant excerpts from your stored documents to provide context.
4. Crash reporting
Eidetic uses Sentry for crash reporting. When the app encounters an unexpected error, a crash report is sent to Sentry containing technical information about the error (stack trace, device type, OS version, app version). Crash reports do not contain your document content, images, or personal information.
Sentry's privacy policy is available at sentry.io/privacy.
5. Location data
Eidetic requests location permission to tag your scanned documents with where they were captured. This helps you find documents later by location.
- Location is captured only at the moment of scanning — not continuously in the background
- Location data is stored on your device only and is never sent to our servers
- For gallery imports, location is extracted from the photo's EXIF metadata if available — your device's current location is not used
- You can decline location permission — the app works fully without it
6. Camera and photo library access
Eidetic requests camera permission to scan documents and photo library permission to import existing images. These permissions are used only when you actively initiate a scan or import. We do not access your camera or photo library in the background.
7. Calendar access
If you connect your calendar in Settings, Eidetic requests calendar permission to create reminders from scanned documents. Calendar access is optional and only used to create events — we never read your existing calendar entries.
8. Microphone access
Eidetic requests microphone permission for voice input in the Ask screen. Speech recognition is processed by your device's native Android speech engine — audio is not sent to Eidetic's servers or our AI providers.
9. Data storage and security
All your documents, extracted text, and metadata are stored locally on your device using Android's encrypted storage (Android Keystore). This means:
- Your data is encrypted at rest on your device
- Your data is tied to your specific device installation — uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored memories
- We cannot access your data remotely
- If you lose your device, your Eidetic data cannot be recovered (cloud backup is a future paid feature)
10. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties except as described in this policy (AI providers for processing, Sentry for crash reports). We will disclose data if required by law or to protect our legal rights, but we have no ability to access your locally stored data in any case.
11. Children's privacy
Eidetic is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you have concerns, contact us at support@eidetic.in.
12. Your rights
Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it at all times:
- Access: All your data is visible within the app in the Library screen
- Deletion: Delete individual memories from the Library, or clear all memories from Settings → Clear all memories
- Correction: Re-scan or re-import a document to update its stored content
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as the app evolves. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
